The Avana Difference:

Finding the Right Balance

For decades, the only options for assisted living were either large corporate assisted living facilities or small residential care homes.  The problem with those two options was that the vast difference between them didn’t allow for any middle ground and many families couldn’t find the right setting that felt like a good fit.

Avana offers the happy medium between these options and fills the great divide that has existed for far too long.

Avana

Each modern Avana 10-suite home is designed specifically to offer an upscale aesthetic and open social space on an easily maneuverable scale with large suites that feel more like a private apartment than a bedroom.

Avana is priced lower than large facilities and higher than small care homes, sitting at the median between the two in price range.

Avana delivers a relaxed social lifestyle with generous shared and private spaces, family style dining, high caregiver to resident ratio, personalized care plans that suit each resident’s desired schedule, group activities with not too few and not too many participants, and a palpable sense of belonging for our residents and their families.

Large Facilities

Large facilities are the most expensive on the rate range in addition to frequent (unexpected) add-on costs and 5-7% annual rate increases, have the lowest caregiver to resident ratio and can sometimes feel like living on a cruise ship with lengthy hallways, elevators and expansive areas to navigate.

They are designed for a high-functioning resident population that enjoys mass socialization, dressing for meals that are served in a huge restaurant-style dining room and an undeniable corporate structure and climate that can feel rather institutional.

Assisted living facility residents are placed on a schedule for medication management and showers and are otherwise monitored by a quick caregiver check every 2 hours unless they click their emergency response button, so it is vital that they are high functioning enough to call for help when they need it.

Too Small
Small Residential Care Homes

On the polar opposite side of the spectrum , small care homes (5 or fewer rooms) are the least expensive option and are best suited for a low-functioning resident population because space, privacy and activity level is limited.

Socialization is very intimate and lends itself best to residents who do well in a less stimulating environment.  Families may need to squeeze in to the resident's small room when visiting or have less privacy by sharing their visit with other residents in the compact living or dining area.

Usually, the smaller residential care homes are not updated, so they can be dimly lit, lack natural sunlight and have narrow hallways.  Residents reside in small bedrooms and share one common bathroom. Many of these homes have one caregiver who lives at the home and sleeps during the night.
