Developed in close partnership with Arizona State University's School of Social Work BSW Program, Avana's Life Enrichment Program offers daily one-on-one interaction with social-work students whose focus is on working with the senior population. Residents and students enjoy learning, creating and sharing together in a multi-faceted and highly-personalized activities program.
Students, Seniors and Socialization

Our social work student internship program is designed to provide learning experiences between generations. Residents interact with students daily while participating in one-on-one and group-life enrichment activities at Avana. We believe that socialization among mixed age groups enhances emotional, intellectual and physical well being. Every generation has value to impart to other generations. Students and residents grow their understanding of one another by sharing wisdom, humor, ideas, challenges, successes, memories and aspirations.

Education and Entertainment

Whether taking part in an educational series about desert flora and fauna or listening to a vibrant story teller or musical performer, our residents love to learn and be entertained. Special-interest groups and community discussions on varying topics keep residents engaged in conversations that would otherwise never occur. We foster thought-provoking chats that stimulate intellectual wellness.

Creativity and Imagination

Seasoned artists and late bloomers alike benefit from creative outlets like painting, baking, designing, crafting, and brainstorming ideas. We believe that collaborative art installments and an on-site gallery of their work are integral to giving our residents a sense of belonging among their neighbors and friends at Avana.
Movement and Music
Movement is medicine and music is magical. Avana residents love to participate in sing alongs, play the piano and strum the guitar. Our surround- sound system allows for themed music therapy and rhythmic exercise routines. Outdoor activities include an intimate walk on the meandering path watching butterflies or working on green-thumb skills around the potted organic herb garden.
